Black Forest Gateau | Cherry, Cream and Chocolate Cake

Black Forest Gateau is a proper retro dessert. Originally from Germany, Black Forest Gateau is a decadent cake comprising layers of sponge cake soaked in Kirsch or cherry liqueur, sandwiching chopped cherries, black cherry jam and whipped cream. My version of BFG is also topped with whipped cream, milk chocolate curls and whole black cherries dipped in dark chocolate. Like most elaborate cakes, there are many processes to go through, but the result is spectacular.

Also, when I see you struggle to get the chocolate to curl …and yet the cake looks exquisite. It inspires me to feel as if I could succeed despite any problems I run into.

    Also love it when Mrs. Keef joins you at the end for the tasting.Gives the show a real family feeling. Also the applause for her is precious.

    Tell the wife she is very welcome and it does take at least 2 days to make and is a blast from the past. I froze my cake layers after basting them with boozy cherry fruit syrup or juice keef, and it makes assembly easier and they defrost in the fridge and really get to know each other after that, but well done mate 👍😉
