Best Valentine’s Day Chocolate Cake (with cherries or berries)

This is the best Valentine’s Day Chocolate Cake on the planet!
Who needs a box of chocolate when you can have the best Valentine’s Day chocolate CAKE instead? I make this over-the-top cake every Valentine’s day for all the sweethearts in my life. I have a wonderful cake recipe that uses Port as its surprise ingredient. If you’re short on time, you can use a box mix, just make sure that it’s not ‘super moist’ or ‘pudding in the mix’. This cake needs to be on the dry side because you’re going to moisten it with cherry juice. We want a moist cake, not a wet one.

Your Valentine’s Day just got a whole lot better…
Since Valentine’s Day falls on a Wednesday this year (2018), it’s possible to make and assemble this cake over the course of a few days. You can prep the cherries and bake the cake one day, make the frosting another and then assemble it all over the course of three days. You won’t be pressed for time while all the ingredients stay fresh in the refrigerator. You’ll be able to pull off a breathtaking presentation that will look like you slaved for the entire three days.
