Manchester Tart | School Dinner Nostalgia

Manchester Tart – sweet shortcrust pastry, raspberry jam, optional sliced bananas, set custard, a sprinkling of coconut. And if you were lucky, a cherry on top. This glorious dessert, Manchester Tart, was a staple of many a school dinner in the UK, probably up until the 80s. I loved it (except for the bananas), but never knew what it was called.

at first i thought when i saw the ingredients, “well what is there to complain about, thats a decent thing for school lunch”…then i saw the gooey wobbly pudding consistency of the end result and i was like, “poor keefy, wanna talk about your childhood trauma”? and only one cherry on top. well talk about “getting prepared for later life”.
