Steak ‘n Shake Copycat Recipe | Frisco Melts

Today I recreate the Steak ‘n Shake FRISCO MELT! This sandwich is a cross between a cheeseburger and a grilled cheese sandwich with a juicy beef patty, 2 kinds of cheese, and a tangy sauce to glue it all together. Now you can make these sandwiches anytime at home!

Steak ‘n Shake Frisco Melt
(recipe for 8 sandwiches)

½ c. mayo
½ c. ketchup
2 Tbsp. pickle relish
1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
2 lbs. ground beef
salt and pepper
16 slices bread
1 stick of butter, room temperature
8 slices Swiss cheese
8 slices yellow American cheese

Prepare sauce by mixing mayo, ketchup, relish, and Worcestershire sauce together. Refrigerate until ready to assemble sandwiches.
Form 8 burger patties and season both sides with salt and pepper, to taste.
Melt 1 Tbsp. butter in a large skillet preheated over medium high heat. Add burger patties 4 at a time. Cook on 1st side until browned, flip, and smash with a spatula to flatten the patties. Cook until 2nd side is browned. Flip again if any redness remains on the edges of the patties. Remove first batch, drain any excess fat, and repeat with remaining burgers.
Butter 1 side of each piece of bread. To assemble sandwiches, slather the unbuttered side of two pieces of bread with the sauce. Place 1 slice of Swiss cheese on one piece of bread and 1 slice of yellow American on the other. Add a burger patty to one half and close up your sandwich.
Cook sandwiches in a skillet (mine is electric, but you can do this on the stovetop too!) until toasty on both sides. Cover your skillet as the sandwiches cook to ensure melty cheese! ENJOY!!
